Fuel Price Dynamics: A Glimpse into December 2023

In the heart of Islamabad, the per-litre cost of petrol is poised to experience a significant dip, plummeting by an estimated Rs 13.10. Simultaneously, high-speed diesel (HSD) is projected to undergo a substantial reduction, anticipating a cut of Rs 13.66 per litre in the latter half of December 2023.

Anticipated Price Adjustments Across Petroleum Products

Forecasts indicate a noteworthy decline in petrol prices, expected to retreat from Rs 281.34 per litre to Rs 268.24 per litre, marking a considerable decrease of Rs 13.10 per litre. Likewise, the price of HSD/diesel is poised to diminish by Rs 13.66 per litre, transitioning from Rs 289.71 per litre to Rs 276.05 per litre.  Additionally, the price of light diesel oil (LDO) is expected to undergo a cut of Rs 10.23 per litre, descending from Rs 175.93 per litre to Rs 165.70 per litre.

Government’s Pricing Decisions: A Recap

On December 1, the government opted to maintain the petrol price at Rs 281.34 per litre, and kerosene oil witnessed a decrease of Rs 3.82 per litre. Additionally, the government approved a Rs 4.52 per litre reduction in the price of LDO for the initial half of December 2023. Furthermore, the current margin on petrol and diesel stands at Rs 8.65 per litre.
