Double Sawari Banned in Karachi

KARACHI: The Sindh Government banned pillion riding (also known as double sawari) across the province on Friday, as part of arrangements for the Islamic festival of Eid Milad un Nabi, which will be celebrated on September 29.

Pillion riding is banned on the 11th and 12th in Rabi-ul-Awal in all cities, according to a press release from the Sindh Home Department. The choice was issued in response to a letter from the chief of the Sindh police recommending the ban in order to maintain peace and order and avoid any bad incidents during the processions.

Double Sawari Ban Would not be Applicable:

The home department added that the double sawari ban would not be applicable to women, children under the age of 12, senior citizens, people who are in uniform for law enforcement or security, people who work in essential services, or journalists who can prove they have a press card or service card.

The government has also announced a public holiday on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (12th Rabi-ul-Awal). – INP
